When we visited many years ago it was under sunny skies....the lake looked very brilliant...this visit was under cloudy skies, 5 degrees (brrrr) but spectacular none the less...
Our stops at the view points were a little quick, it was early, it was cold...
Few facts...
- Crater Lake is the deepest lake in the United States
- It is the second deepest lake in the Western Hemisphere
- It is the seventh deepest lake in the world
- Maximum lake depth: 1,943 feet (592 meters)
- Snowfall, yearly average: 44 feet (13.4 meters)
- Maximum snow depth at Park Headquarters: 21 feet (6.4 meters
Heading North now, hoping for warmer weather...This is the view leaving the park....this straight road, goes on and on..
a little further it looked like this....
and a little further it looked like this....
Cloudy cool day the entire drive, got to Bend Oregon to get a campsite....none to be had....a Quilt Show rolled into town....yes, I said Quilts....People come from all over the world....with their quilts, there are events in neighbouring Sisters and Redmond....IT IS HUGE....long story short...we were not going to find anywhere to stay here...so down the road we headed....about 45 minutes down the road to a little town called Pineville...found an awesome RV site...in full-sun (minus the sun)...but by late afternoon...SUN, and nothing goes better with sun than a BBQ and a Beer!!! Cheers!!!
