July 6, 2015 Day in Astoria and bike riding

Spent the better part of the day touring around Astoria, real cool old town, lots of history.  Saw some neat stuff along the way...

This guy's unit, is pretty cool looking..feels life a coffin inside its so small, but looks good!!
crocheted fishies.....someone has way too much time on their hands around here...

Lots of old buildings...beautiful flowers and planters ...
The waterfront....also very old and rustic..

Walked around and while browsing at the local bike shop....who do we run into again???? Samantha....crazy coincidence. She was in getting some things done on her bike and as she was planning on spending the night at Fort Stevens also, we invited her for dinner and offered a spot in our campsite for her to pitch her tent for a second time on her solo journey....

Spent a few more hours touring the city. Stopped at the Astoria Column, which normally has an amazing view of the area.  This is what it usually looks like...
This is what it looked like this time, covered in a plastic condom....
Spent a few more hours touring around, had lunch at a local Brew Pub on the waterfront.  Very rustic old place, typical for the area.  While using the "little ladies room", which was an old cannery bathroom, this is what I found on the toilet door....apparently someone thought this was a great place to  spend far too much time....writing a story...pretty elaborate I might say...
The weather cleared up, so we jumped on our bikes and rode out to the Fort Stevens gun battery...quick visit as the park was closing shortly.
Enjoyed the rest of the evening having a great meal and drinks by the fire...chatting with Samantha about her 34 day solo journey...and what inspired her to undertake such an amazing trip...chatting about our fears and phobias and how we are overcoming them..how strong those fears and phobias can be, but how much stronger we can be to overcome them, and just how amazing the feeling is when we turn another corner in the battle to overcome!!!! Thanks Samantha...there is always a reason why we meet the people we meet...maybe someday we will go on a "road trip, swim in a lake, and throw up along the way!!! and be good with it all ....
